Winter Wardrobe Wonders: Cool Plaid Skirts

Winter Wardrobe Wonders: Cool Plaid Skirts

Plaid has many moods. It can be punk rock and rebellious one moment—think Vivienne Westwood and the Sex Pistols—only to be flirty and fun the next—remember Cher Horowitz in Clueless. It can give "Lady of the Manor" vibes, but it can also make you think of the average American lumberjack or Jill.

Styling and silhouettes are, of course, paramount, but it is this versatility that makes it forever fashionable. One glance at the FW23 runways and we see that the spotlight this season is on plaid skirts.

There's plenty to choose from, but we always gear toward designs by sustainable brands such as Chopova Lowena whose collection of upcycled plaid skirts are reminiscent of Vivienne Westwood's rebellious spirit. The london-based designers, with Bulgarian and English roots, playfully experiment with folkloric prints and narratives to produce quirky unique pieces.

And to give you vintage options, here is our round-up of the must-have plaid skirts from our shop to keep you ahead of the trend.

The Flirty and Fun plaid skirt is mini and preferably pleated, much like this vintage design we have in store. Made in Italy, it is for all seasons. In winter, style it with your colored tights and a cool blazer. Do clash the plaid and don't forget the chain belt for a fashion-forward finish.

The Country Plaid Skirt is for a more demure take on the print. Which of course has its merits:  Did you that the word 'plaid' originated from the Scottish Gaelic 'plaide' which means 'blanket'?  We have plenty of preppy styles like this 90s piece by the renowned Pendleton brand. The red wool design is perfect for your chic winter style.  Do check out this shorter and more modern rendition in green. And we also love this design for a more modern rendition of the narrative.

The  Fashion Forward Maxi is the kind of skirt that a stylish modern woman like Carrie Bradshaw would wear.  Found on a trip to Riga, this piece is quirky and cool with a unique silhouette—the hemline is more of a bell shape. Perfect for the holiday season, you can dress it up with heels and a great headpiece.

The Grunge Must-Have  is playful and cool. Preferably short like this vintage 90s design by Express. It is the small details that make it so covetable—did you spot that oversized gold-toned button?

whichever one you choose, styling is key! Keep it playful and fun by adding accessories from cool belts to retro boots and always remember with plaid, as with many other things in life, attitude is everything!
